The Mardi Gras Ball’s success is certainly due in part to the court couples and their fundraising. However, it is also successful in large part to all our guests, board members, program speakers, band and Embassy Suites staff. We have so many to thank. We are indebted to Henry Drilling for sponsoring our Cocktail Hour. The cocktail hour gives all of us an opportunity to visit, take photos and get revved up for the gala that awaits us behind the closed doors. When the doors open and band kicks off the grand entrance parade, it is time to get our ‘fun’ on! This year was no different! The band began playing, “When the Saints Go Marching In” and, the party was underway!
Our program this year was powerful. Courtney Williams-Theis and Kevin Hacker welcomed everyone and introduced our two speakers, former Tennessee Titans linebacker, Keith Bulluck and former My Friend’s House resident, Craig Petway. Both shared their experiences growing up in the foster care system and how they benefited from the kindness of individuals and organizations during those difficult times. Our new Executive Director, Tina Edwards, made a plea to be a part of the solution for these children...part of the story of the boys at My Friend’s House, now and in the future.
As the program wound down, the court couples were ‘feathering up’...and funds were being tallied. It was time for the revealing of the new King and Queen of Mardi Gras Ball 2017! The red carpet was ready and the totals were announced. Brandon and Linlee Allen reigned as King and Queen of a hotly contested, record-breaking campaign, bringing in a total of $35,416. The fabulous Gary Jenkins and the Thundering Hearts cranked up the music, the red carpet was cleared and the real party got underway! The band kept the tunes coming and there was no shying away of anyone from the dance floor. Thank you one and all for making it a spectacular evening, and for sharing generously to support the boys and programming at My Friend’s House Family & Children’s Services, Inc.
