A southwest Florida nonprofit, Better Together, has created a new model that does not require government monies to care for children and support families in crisis. This model keeps children out  of foster care and ultimately prevent families already in crisis-mode from slipping deeper into turmoil.

With Better Together, the average length of separation is 41 days, whereas children in the foster care system in Florida spend an average of 501 days in custody. Think of it more like co-parenting for the families in need of help.
